Candlelight Vigil for Victims of the Club Q Shooting

November 22, 2022

The violence against our queer siblings in Colorado Springs might feel like violence against the whole community, another instance of harm in a long string of recent harms. In times like this, community is more important than ever. We will gather in front of King Avenue UMC (Neil Avenue doors) on the steps outside, at 7 pm. All of your feelings and your whole self is welcome. We will have five minutes of silence, a prayer, and a hymn sing while we light candles together in unity and solidarity with our siblings in Colorado Springs. You are loved.

O God of all love, grace, and peace,
you created us in love and for love.
You are always with us,
always ready to heal, protect, and comfort us;
and mourn, grieve, and weep with us.

Sometimes the world feels like a dumpster fire.
We stand before you broken and hurting,
reeling from another shot aimed at our bruised bodies and souls.
We believe you are with us,
and yet you feel far from us.

We need an assurance of your presence,
a felt, embodied, experiential reminder
of your ever-present love,
So that we can live another day,
take another step,
find hope for the next moment,
and so rediscover your welcoming, safe presence,
and our own belonging in that presence.

We pray this in the strong and gentle name of Jesus
by the power and love of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
