KAP Auditions for Falsettos

KING AVENUE PLAYERS AUDITIONS

King Avenue Players proudly announces auditions for their Spring production of Falsettos, a contemporary musical about family, relationships, bar mitzvahs, baseball and AIDS with book by William Finn and James Lepine and Music and Lyrics by William Finn. This production is under the direction of Edward Grudus. Performances are April 3-6, 2025,

Auditions will be held at King Avenue United Methodist Church (299 King Ave, Columbus, OH 43201) on January 26 & 27, 2025, from 6:30-9:00 pm with callbacks (if needed) on January 28, 2025, from 6:30-9:00 pm.

For your audition, it is strongly suggested that you prepare the following:
  • 2 songs (1 up tempo, 1 down tempo), 32 measures each that demonstrate range and ability to communicate through song. Please bring the sheet music for your song selections in the correct keys. An accompanist will be provided for your audition.
  • 1 contemporary monologue of no more than 90 seconds in length, either dramatic or comedic.
  • Please bring a current headshot and a copy of your resume to the audition, as well as A list of all conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. Rehearsals are Sundays-Wednesdays from 6:30-9:00 pm beginning Sunday, February 2, 2025.
There will be no dance auditions, but we are looking for “actors who move well.” Below is a character breakdown of the roles available for this production:
  • Marvin – Tenor/Baritone, Age range: 30’s-50’s – The wealthy, alpha, and nebulous new boyfriend to Whizzer and ex-husband of Trina. He’s trying to bring his new and old families together.
  • Whizzer – Tenor, Age range: 20’s-mid-30’s – Marvin’s boy toy boyfriend and all that entails. He has broken up Marvin & Trina’s marriage.
  • Mendel – Tenor/Baritone, Age range: 30’s-50’s – The psychiatrist who treats Marvin, then Trina and Jason. He then marries Trina.
  • Jason – Tenor – The son of Marvin and Trina. He should be able to pass for 13 years old as we see him going through his bar mitzvah.
  • Trina – Mezzo-Soprano, Age range: 30’s-40’s. Marvin’s neurotic ex-wife and the future wife of Dr. Mendel.
  • Dr. Charlotte – Mezzo-Soprano, Age range: 30’s-50’s. One half of the adorable lesbian couple next door. She is an internist and demands our attention about the looming health crisis.
  • Cordelia – Soprano, Age range: 30’s-50’s – The other half of the adorable lesbian couple next door and an aspiring Jewish caterer.

Please note: Due to the presence of a minor child (under age 18) in this cast, all adults involved with this production will be asked to submit to a very simple background check and a brief training called "Safe Sanctuaries" at the first rehearsal.
