King Avenue Digest 8/10/24

August 10, 2024

*NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS AND QUICKLY-APPROACHING EVENTS*

  • THIS SUNDAY, August 11: Return of Children, Youth, and Family Sunday Programming - It's hard to believe that summer vacation is winding down and we're talking about back-to-school! Sunday morning programming begins soon, too.  Worship Connections (both services) and all Sunday School classes (10 am) return Sunday, August 11. READ MORE About our CYFM and Its Offerings.

  • THIS SUNDAY, August 11: Blessing of Backpacks and Briefcases -It's time for students and teachers to return to school! Bring your backpack or briefcase to church and join us for a back-to-school blessing in worship on Sunday, August 11, both Morning Blend (9am) and the 11:00 Worship.

  • DUE THIS SUNDAY, August 11: Hubbard Elementary School Supplies - King Avenue has been connected with Hubbard Elementary School for several years as a community partner. One important way we can support them is through donating school supplies. If you want to help, buy items from the list and bring them to church so that we can take them to Hubbard. Backpacks, plastic folders in solid colors, with two pockets and prongs, crayons, 24-count boxes, ticonderoga pencils (12- or 24-count boxes), glue sticks, boxes of tissues. Supplies are due THIS SUNDAY, August 11.

  • THIS WEDNESDAY, August 14: World Percussion Session for Retirees - Before email, cell phones and internet, we communicated with drums and rattles. Those of pure Australian descent used the Digeridoo. Drumming is in our DNA! Join your fellow retirees from 11:30-1:30 to experience the fun, freedom and relaxation provided by this wildly liberating workshop of drumming. Learn how it relates to your heart and mind and the music of the Earth. You will have a chance to sit at the large Grandmother drum and be the pulse of the group, conducting as the pulse changes and flows. Come with an open heart and mind as an inquisitive child. Leave any negativity, doubt and worry in the burden basket at the door. No experience necessary or even helpful. This workshop is led by Deborah Ling, lifetime drummer. Please bring your own lunch. Beverages provided.

  • *NEW* NNEMAP Item of the Month for August - In August, we are collecting feminine hygiene kits for NNEMAP Food Pantry. Make your own by getting a gallon-size plastic bag and fill it with: 6 feminine hygiene products, 1 travel size shampoo, 1 razor, 1 travel size deodorant, and an encouraging note card. You can bring your completed feminine hygiene kit(s) with you on Sundays through August. There will be a place to leave them in the back of the worship space.

  • *NEW* Sunday, September 8: Fall All-Church Kick-Off Spaghetti Luncheon - Friends of King Avenue will help us provide an All-Church Luncheon to kick off our program year on Sunday, September 8 at noon. Spaghetti will be served. Stay tuned for opportunities to help out. It takes our village and extended village to make all of these events happen. Please consider pitching in. A free will offering will be received to support the cost.

  • *NEW* Sunday, September 8: Fall Kick-Off Fellowship and Fun - After the All-Church Lunch, come outside to the south parking lot for inflatables, crafts, games, & bubbles. These activities are for anyone young or young at heart!

We will meet in the choir room at 10:15 AM to rehearse a simple or familiar anthem for that day's service. Hope to see you there! Bring a friend!
