SUNDAY, January 4: Item of the Month for NNEMAP - The NNEMAP Cereal Challenge is ON! NNEMAP is aiming to gather 1,000 boxes of cereal this January to support our community. We’re prioritizing wholesome, unsweetened options—think oatmeal, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, Cheerios, Wheaties, and other classics. Every box counts—how many can we collect together?
Sunday, January 11: Blessing Bag (All Ages!) Service Project - Help us support our houseless neighbors! Join us in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the 11:00 AM service on Sunday, January 11. We’ll be gathering to assemble bags filled with essential items, and everyone is welcome to participate in this meaningful project.
Sunday, January 11: Kinship Lunch and Gardening Workshop - Following the Blessing Bag assembly service project (12:30pm), join other college students and young adults for lunch and a workshop about gardening. We are excited to welcome community organizer and food activist, Brynette Turner, to speak about the basics of growing your own food in your rooms/apartments. Beginning Monday, January 12: Genesis for Normal People - Join Rev. Corey Perry as he takes a 6-week journey to the beginning of it all - Genesis - with Peter Enns and Jared Byas, authors of the book Genesis for Normal People. In this study, you will be able to make sense of a book that set the stage for the rest of the Bible and, in the process, understand what it is and what it isn't. This class runs Mondays for 6 weeks on Zoom, 7:00-8:15pm. Participants will be responsible for purchasing their own copy of the book. CLICK TO REGISTER
Beginning January 13/14 - February 10/11: Hearts Strangely Lukewarm... Methodism's Struggle with White Supremacy - For all the blessings of our faith tradition, we also have an ugly past. If we want to transform the world to a better future for all people, we must come to terms with that ugly past. Join us for a 5-week study of the book Our Hearts Were Strangely Lukewarm by John Elford to learn together about Methodism's struggle with white supremacy, the enduring impacts of racism in the church today, and how we can continue ridding ourselves of this disease. Two options: Tuesdays at noon on Zoom, or Wednesdays at 7pm at the church. Participants are responsible for obtaining a copy of the book. Wednesday, January 14: Retirees Soup & Games - To welcome the new year, the Retiree's Ministry is having Soup and Games on Jan. 14, 2026, from 11:00-1:00. We hope you will join in the fun by bringing an easy -to-learn game or a deck of cards to get a card game going. We anticipate lots of laughter and camaraderie in the making. If you have never been to a Retiree Event or are new to King Avenue and want to meet some new people, we hope you will join us. We will be serving soup, salad, relishes, coffee and water. Sunday, January 18: Food Security Workshop - On Sunday, Jan. 18th, we are excited to welcome community organizer and food activist, Brynette Turner, to speak about food security. Thursdays, January 22 - March 12: Queer as Bible, Examining the Bible and Christianity Through a Queer Lens (campus event) - College students are invited to join faith leaders and seekers for an interactive discussion in the Ohio Firsts Room, in the Ohio Union. Our meetings will be Thursdays, 12/22 -3/12 from 7 to 8:30 pm. We’ll be discussing Intersectional Topics within Queer Theology, History of Church and Queer Concepts, and Queer Saints and Theologians. Our goal is simple: to offer immediate, on-the-fly assistance to both our church family and neighbors in need. You can find the pantry on the lower level in the Children’s Hallway (outside the large children’s classroom). We invite everyone to be a part of this vital community service! When you notice items have run out, please help restock the pantry. This is a hands-on project for all families and kids of all ages. Fri/Sat, January 30-31: CORE Youth Group Overnight - Youth in grades 6th through 12th are invited to join Gwen and Pastor Andy for a night of fun, fellowship, and faith. We will play Nerf Wars and watch Thunderbolts: The New Avengers. Drop off your kids at 6pm on January 30th and pick them back up at 10am on January 31st. Please RSVP by January 16th so we can plan for food and all of the activities. Friends are welcome, but please register for the event.

Saturday, February 7: New Member Class - We all have a basic human need to belong. Many of us have found that belonging with King Avenue UMC. When we find that we belong somewhere, sometimes we feel the need to claim it and make it official. If you've found that belonging at King Avenue but haven't taken that next step, you have the opportunity to do just that at our next New Members' Class. We'll gather at the church building for class on Saturday, February 7 from 9am-12pm, then we'll welcome you into membership in worship Sunday,February 8. Tuesday, February 17: Retirees Estate Planning Lunch and Learn - Come and join your fellow retirees on Tuesday, Feb. 17th at 11:00 as we explore the topic of Estate Planning and all that it entails. We will meet in the chapel, and our speaker will be Sara Colton, who comes highly recommended. She will be bringing all the necessary materials along with her experience and expertise. Lunch will be provided in the parlor, along with coffee and water. If this event sounds like something you want to know more about, bring your questions and register on Realm. This way we will know how many box lunches to order. If you are vegetarian, let us know and we will order with that in mind. We hope you will join in the fun and learn something along the way. Wednesday, February 18: Ash Wednesday Taizé Worship Service - King Avenue worship community will gather on Ash Wednesday for a service of prayer, song and contemplation by candlelight. We will be receiving Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes. The service will begin at 7pm in Fellowship Hall.
Monday, February 23 - March 23: Sighs Too Deep for Words, A Study of Lamentations - In this study, we will explore the book of Lamentations to learn how faithful Christians can, both individually and collectively, express feelings of grief, sadness, questioning, anger, and loss while staying true to their faith in God. We will also look at events in modern history and responses to personal and communal tragedies in various forms of artistic expression. This online (Zoom) class led by Beth Aiello will be held on Mondays from 7:00-8:30 weekly for five weeks (2/23, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23). CLICK TO SIGN UP
Friday, February 27: Family Potluck & Open Mic - On Friday, Feb. 27th, from 6-9 pm, join your King Avenue family for a potluck and open mic night. We’ll eat around 6:20 pm, giving everyone a chance to arrive with food (no desserts please). And then, the Fellowship Hall will transform into a stage for the whole church. Bring your voices and your friends. Then, let’s belt out our favorite Disney or family appropriate tunes! Appropriate for all ages! No RSVP required.
Grocery Assistance for Immigrant Families - Our Helpers is a women-led nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of immigrant and refugee families in Central Ohio. They especially serve families who have already been impacted by losing a family member in immigration action. Many folks are afraid to leave their homes or register their names. Our Helpers is filling that gap. To support this valuable organization, we will be collecting grocery items for local immigrants. Calling All Activists! The Starfish Project - Being the ""hands and feet of Christ"" in a complicated world can feel daunting. The Starfish Project is a space for those called to action but seeking direction. Together, we’ll explore how our small acts—like the boy on the beach with the starfish—can make a collective difference. Join the Starfish Project. Sunday, March 1: Schubert's Mass in G - During the 11:00 worship, join combined choirs of King Avenue UMC and Indianola Presbyterian Church as they present the Schubert Mass in G. Musicians have been working for a year to present this work to King Avenue on March 1, then will share with Indianola Presbyterian the following week. Bring a friend!
Due Sunday, March 1: Easter Flower Order - Tulips and Azaleas are displayed on Easter. The cost of a Tulip is $9, and an Azalea is $15. Your donations will be included in the 9am and 11am Easter bulletins on Sunday, April 5. Flowers are available to take home after the 11am service. The deadline to submit your payment and necessary information is Sunday, March 1.
Due Friday, March 6: GBHEM Scholarship Portal - The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) scholarship application portal is open for United Methodist students seeking scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study at colleges, universities, and seminaries. In 2025, GBHEM awarded more than 2,500 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students at over 600 schools worldwide. This financial aid helped students pursue their dreams to serve as the next generation of leaders. You may submit one application each year. Sunday, March 15: UMCOR Special Offering - UMCOR Sunday is one of six churchwide Sunday offerings designated to support ministries and causes important to the entire United Methodist Church. This special offering underwrites UMCOR’s administrative costs. Thursday, March 19: Retirees to the Ohio Craft Museum - Come and join the Retiree's Ministry as we head to the Ohio Craft Museum on March 19th at 11:00. Located at 1665 W. Fifth Avenue, the museum will be displaying Milestones: 100 Years of Miles Davis. There is a gift shop for you to peruse and after the self-guided tour. The museum has one ADA parking space in the rear of the main parking lot along with a lift. Due to limited parking, we will meet in the church parking lot at 10:30 and carpool to the museum. Sunday, March 22: United Methodist Alliance for Transgender Inclusion - The recent, unprecedented move by the Kansas legislature to target transgender people’s driver’s licenses and birth certificates is a stark reminder of why justice work is so urgent. On March 22 at 6:00pm, we will explore these themes of erasure and resilience with Maj. Emma Webb. After a decade of dedicated military service, Major Webb was discharged due to her gender identity. She will join us to discuss her experience with the removal of trans people from the armed forces, helping us connect the dots between legislative attacks and institutional discrimination. Tuesday, March 24: Book Talk: The Queer Allies Bible by NV Gay - On Tuesday March 24 from 7-8:30, NV Gay, author of The Queer Allies Bible: The Ultimate Guide to Being an Empowering LGBTQIA+ Ally, will be visiting us to share about their book, read a few selections, and sign copies. King Avenue seeks to practice inclusiveness as God intends, and this book is an important resource for that work. Copies of the book will be available for purchase thanks to The Little Gay Bookstore. Free Property eAlerts - The Franklin County Auditor’s office is dedicated to helping property owners better understand and provide feedback related to their property records. As part of this effort, the Auditor’s office offers a Property eAlerts tool through which a property owner can sign up to receive an automated email alert whenever a change is made to their property record (e.g., change in property owner, change in owner address, change in value). This free tool is designed to allow property owners to easily monitor changes made to their property records. To sign up to receive eAlerts for your property, search for your property and then from the parcel summary page click the "Sign Up for or Manage Property eAlerts" button. Thursday, April 2: Maundy Thursday Worship - Experience a time of sacred reflection this Maundy Thursday, April 2nd, at King Avenue. Join us for a service featuring contemplative music and worship, reflection through our labyrinth and prayer stations, and the sharing of Holy Communion, as we remember Jesus' Last Supper and His call to love. This service begins at 7:00pm in the King Avenue Sanctuary.
Friday, April 3: Good Friday Worship - Join your King Avenue family for a Good Friday worship service. This immersive worship experience is titled “We Were There.” Hear from Mary Magdelene, Judas, Peter, and Pontius Pilate as they recount their stories and witnessed the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion. Interspersed between stories is music to help us reflect on the sacrifice and grace offered through Christ's death on the cross. This service begins at 7:00pm in the King Avenue Sanctuary. Sunday, April 5: Easter Worship - On Sunday, April 5th, we celebrate Easter Worship, affirming our identity as 'Easter People.' Sunday, April 12: Children and Youth-led Worship Sunday - All are invited to participate in this special annual worship Sunday (both services). Please come to support and encourage our kids as they greet, usher, give the announcements, read scripture, offer prayers, and give a relevant message to the whole community. We will also celebrate our confirmation class and welcome them as members of King Avenue UMC. Join us for cake in the Parlor at 10 am. (No Sunday School at 10 am.) For the CYFM Worship Sunday on April 12th, all of the kids are invited to sing one of our favorite Worship Connections songs during the offering. Sunday/Monday, April 19-20: King Avenue Players Auditions for "Perfect Arrangement" - Not only does this play open our 2026 season, it also opens the Pride Month Activities and Celebrations at King Avenue UMC! According to the Concord Theatricals website: "Inspired by the true story of the earliest stirrings of the gay rights movement, Perfect Arrangement merges madcap sitcom-style laughs with provocative drama as two closeted U.S. State Department employees struggle to maintain their cover – and their sanity – in 1950s America." Auditions are open to Adults (age 18+). Auditionees will be asked to read from the script individually and with the other auditionees in attendance. Scripts will be provided for your use during auditions. Please plan to stay for the whole audition timeslot (6:30-8:30 pm) on your selected day. Wednesday, April 22: Retirees Neighborhood Walk with Susan Keeny - The colors of Spring are on display, and as a way to enjoy them, the Retirees are taking a walk through the neighborhood with Susan Keeny on April 22, 2026. She will be sharing her knowledge of the different architectural styles displayed on the houses as we walk along. At the end of our walk, we will have lunch on Sarah Hayslip's patio with food prepared by Sarah and Jean Martin. So that they will know how many to prepare for, we are asking you to register on Realm. In case it is breezy, we suggest you come prepared with a jacket. Register for the 2026 AIDS Walk Ohio! AIDS Walk Ohio is a 5K run and a 1-mile walk that raises funds and awareness to help end HIV. There were historic funding cuts in 2025 for HIV prevention and treatment. As we approach what will be the 27th year of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), you cannot find it listed on the main hiv.gov website. Saturday, May 2: CYFM “Compassion & Community” Annual Retreat - Our theme for the annual Children, Youth, and Family Ministries Retreat is Compassion & Community! Caregivers (parents, grandparents, etc), children, and youth deserve rest, support, and fellowship! We will provide childcare activities for infants (under 4 yrs old) in the nursery. Children will have educational activities in the large children’s classroom downstairs. Youth will have their own retreat in Donnenwirth. There is a limit of 6 children in the nursery, 15 children in the classroom, and 12 youth in Donnenwirth. Wednesday, May 6: HAAH Volunteers - With the weather cooperating, we are finally ready to begin work at the 1153 Minnesota site. The first work day on Saturday, May 6 beginning at 8:30 am. We will set the seal plates and begin putting the floor trusses in place. On Wednesday May 6th we will continue setting trusses and begin the decking for the first floor. All of this will happen if the walls are poured soon. If you've ever considered getting involved with King Avenue with Hilliard Adopt A House (Habitat for Humanity), get in on the ground floor of this new project! Monday, May 11: Sex Ed Workshop for Adults - Purity Culture has caused so much damage in our society. Many of us have grown up without any practical sex education and some of us still carry a lot of guilt and shame regarding our bodies, sexuality, and romantic relationships. Rebels and Reconnection, the drop-in peer support group for folks who want to heal from purity culture, is hosting a sex ed workshop for anyone over the age of 18 yr old on Monday, May 11th, at 7 pm, in the Donnenwirth Lounge (2nd floor behind the balcony). Friday, May 15: CORE Youth Group’s Nerf Wars Sendoff for Lauren and Pastor Andy - On Friday, May 15th, from 6 to 9 pm, the youth group (6th through 12th grades) will celebrate Lauren and Andy with a final evening of pizza and nerf wars in the Fellowship Hall. Saturday, May 23: Pride Signs and Pizza - Pump up for Pride! Columbus Pride is June 20 and we need your help to get ready for it! On Saturday May 23, 5-8pm, we'll be in the Fellowship Hall with pizza, sign-making supplies, and music. If you plan to march in Pride, come out and have pizza and make a sign(s) with us. If you won't be marching with us, come out and make a sign(s) for someone else who will be marching. All ages are welcome. And bring your creativity - we'll have a contest for the best sign. Sunday, May 24: Pentecost Sunday AND Aldersgate Day - It’s a special Sunday — doubled! Join us as we celebrate both Pentecost and Aldersgate Day. Pentecost marks the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is often called the “birthday of the Church,” celebrating the beginning of the disciples’ bold ministry and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. We invite everyone to WEAR RED for Pentecost, symbolizing the fire of the Holy Spirit that descended upon the disciples and continues to ignite the Church with faith, passion, and purpose today. Aldersgate Day commemorates the transformative faith experience of John Wesley on May 24, 1738, when he felt his “heart strangely warmed,” inspiring a movement grounded in God’s grace, personal faith, and Christian service. Together, these celebrations invite us to give thanks for the power of the Holy Spirit and renew our commitment to living out our faith with courage, compassion, and joy.
Sunday, May 31: NNEMAP Produce Drive - NNEMAP Food Pantry has been our partner in ministry for several decades and is an important source of food for many of our neighbors. They need our help with produce and we're going to step up. On Sunday, May 31, just bring produce to church with you. NNEMAP will have their van in the parking lot; we drop our donations in and they'll take it back to NNEMAP.
Sunday, May 31: Last CYFM Sunday Programming - The last Sunday for morning CYFM programming is Sunday, May 31. Worship Connections (9 am and 11 am) and regular Sunday School classes (10 am) will be on summer break throughout June and July, but stay tuned for special summer activities and events. Your help helps KAP continue to support free, high-quality theatrical and musical productions for the community. Step up to the mic and share your talent. Sing, play music, tell jokes or stories, perform poetry, do magic, juggle, create art — whatever your talent, your 5 minutes of fame awaits! Performers attend free; general admission is $10. This fantastic experience is the first offering of its kind from KAP (King Avenue Players) and CYFM (King Avenue Children, Youth & Family Ministry). If you have a child currently in Grades K-8, then you are eligible to sign up! The cost per child is $22.50 and it includes dinner each evening at 5:30 pm.
