On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by police in Minneapolis. This tragedy was caught on film and as the public viewed the horror, they were moved by grief, anger, and a sense of justice. Thousands of people worldwide gathered to march and protest police brutality and systemic racism, especially the state-sanctioned violence of Black bodies. Here in Columbus, protests that started at the end of May continued up into the fall of 2020. King Avenue UMC showed their support by stating Black Lives Matter on our sign in front of the church building. In response, King Avenue’s Children, Youth, and Family Ministries began a year of intentionally addressing racism and promoting spaces for storytelling and discussion.

For our third Anti-Racism Education Series Panel Discussion, we will be discussing the intersection of faith and protest. How do we use our voices and bodies to dismantle systemic racism? How does the work of anti-racism relate to our spirituality and our role as Christians?

We will be recording the discussion for our church members to watch if they weren’t able to join the panel as scheduled.
