King Avenue Digest 7/29/22

July 29, 2022

As cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in Franklin County and across the state, Columbus and Franklin County public health agencies issued indoor mask advisories, urging residents to wear masks indoors and in crowded places. Columbus Public Health said in a news release that it enacted the advisory because Franklin County is now listed as a high level of transmission on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's latest COVID-19 data tracker.

King Avenue Church has moved from mask optional to MASKS RECOMMENDED. You will see staff, greeters, and ushers wearing masks. Please know that your decision to mask or not mask is a decision you make for you and your family. We encourage everyone to support one another and treat one another with empathy and kindness. There will be no mask-shaming either way!

Online worship will continue to be an option for those not quite ready for in-person worship, those who are not feeling well, or those who have been exposed to COVID-19. You can access our online worship site by going to bit.ly/ka-church-online.

CENTENNIAL CONTEMPLATIONS (Read ALL of the questions and answers on our Centennial Contemplations page.)

  • Q21: From left to right, when facing the windows in Swisher Chapel, what does the first window depict?

  • A21: From left to right when facing the windows, the first window in Swisher Chapel represents the Nativity. There is a manger with a Chi Rho symbol, “the monogram of Christ,” rising on the left. The Alpha and Omega is also used with the Chi Rho to signify that Jesus is the beginning and end of all things. On the right of the manger is a lily, the Fleur-de-lis, a symbol of the Annunciation and the Virgin Mary. There is a star in the upper left with light rays and three crowns symbolizing the Three Wise Men. The flight into Egypt is symbolized by the use of the pyramid with the wing above it and the sword represents the slaughter of the innocents by King Herod.

  • Q22: Left to right facing the windows, what phase of Christ’s life does the second window in Swisher Chapel represent?
