Announcement from Linda Guyton, Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee Chair

“Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else."  – Fred Rogers

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of our senior pastor, John Keeny, in June 2021. Though we are truly sad to lose his leadership and pastoral presence, we celebrate with him in his well-deserved retirement after 46 years of ministry. We know that he and Susan look forward to this new phase of life together.

When John began his appointment with us in July 2006, we knew that very first Sunday we were going to be in good hands.  At that time, he was given a strong and healthy church and during his tenure he has moved us even further in our spiritual journey making us a pillar in the community.

His legacy involves seven appointments including his service as a District Superintendent for the Dayton South District.  Here at King Avenue, we are proud and grateful for his leadership, guidance, and vision for over 14 years.  John’s accomplishments are numerous, but by far having the vision to create and implement a new church start which is now Stone Village Church has to be close to the top of this list.

So, what is next?  We are blessed to have John for several more months.  However, the SPPR committee felt that the Church should be aware of this upcoming transition.  We also want you to know that we will be working very closely with our District Superintendent, Linda Middelberg, to ensure that the King Avenue torch is passed on to another servant leader who shares our mission and vision and will continue to lead us on our spiritual journey.

We will certainly keep the Church apprised of the transition.  In the meantime, should anyone have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via Realm.  For now, let us enjoy these next several months with John and Susan and celebrate their time with us.
