Anti-LGBTQIA+ School Board Resolution

Anti-LGBTQIA+ School Board Resolution

The state's Board of Education has before them a "Resolution to Support Parents, Schools, and Districts in Rejecting Harmful, Coercive, and Burdensome Gender Identity Policies" (see the resolution here). This resolution attempts to invalidate Title IX protections for LGBTQ+ students, spreads harmful falsehoods about LGBTQ+ people, and threatens to make schools unsafe for students. In their September board meeting, they voted to send this resolution to committee rather than adopt it. On Oct. 31 2022, the State Board of Education Executive Committee will meet to discuss this resolution and they may vote to place this resolution back on the Board's voting agenda for the November Board meeting. King Avenue UMC stands against this resolution and urges the Board of Education to vote against placing this resolution on the next voting agenda, and to vote NO on it if they do place it there. This resolution will cause harm, and we love our LGBTQIA+ members, students, families and community too much to not raise our voice in opposition to this harmful policy.
