Black History Month 2023

February 1, 2023

February is Black History Month. Let us spend some time recognizing and honoring contributions of our African American brothers and sisters in Christ this month in our country as well as in the United Methodist Church. Use the links below to learn more.

You can also check out the Religion and Race website. R-Squared — a resource hub by The General Commission on Religion & Race (GCORR) — challenges and equips leaders in the church and beyond to dismantle racism in all its forms. We do this by championing diversity, equity, and inclusion; developing interculturally competent leaders; and catalyzing authentic community.

African-American Spirituals Still Heal
Do you know this hymn?

There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead, To heal the sin-sick soul.
Don't ever feel discouraged, for Jesus is your friend,
And if you lack for knowledge, he'll ne'er refuse to lend.
