Movement Workshop
Thursday, September 15 at 11:30 in the Chapel

Please join The Retiree Ministry for a special Movement Workshop led by our Parish Nurse, Virginia Sheffield on Thursday, September 15 at 11:30 in the Chapel. The Movement Workshop will address our wellness through healthy aging principles as we acknowledge the wisdom stored in our bodies and the connection between aging well, movement, and faith. In our Christian tradition, Jesus demonstrated caring for our bodies by healing physical problems. His teaching was not limited to spiritual and moral concepts, but care and compassion for our human condition. We will explore Jesus' top 10 health and fitness tips!

Please bring a mat, towel or blanket, writing materials and your curiosity!

More About Movement and our Parish Nurse
As we age, movement and physical health become more important in our Activities of Daily Living. Maintaining strength and flexibility is critical to wellness and independence. Aging is an inevitable part of life; it simply indicates that our time and experience are accumulating, which is a gift. Dynamic, abundant health and aging is more than simply accumulating time. Dynamic aging is the acquisition of time and experience along with physical skill. We may all age, but we will not all age dynamically, for to do so we must move. Basic sets of movements can greatly enhance our living as we age! We will investigate the Wesleyan Social Principles regarding health in the context of the creation.

Our Parish Nurse, Virginia Sheffield, BA, RN, has studied movement and health for most of her life. Through working with many movement modalities including yoga, various dance forms, and energy movement, Virginia has an appreciation of the ability of the human body to move. While working in Early Intervention for children with delays and disabilities, Virginia was fortunate to work with talented, dedicated Physical Therapists who provided another view of human movement. Virginia feels fortunate to have had the encouragement and support of King Ave to complete Parish Nurse training through Mt. Carmel's nursing school and Franklin University. Virginia co-facilitated The Wisdom of the Body series with Pastor Colleen and has envisioned this type of gathering with our Retirees Ministry. Please join us as we explore our sacred human condition through our bodies with a special emphasis on health as we age through movement.
