Preparations for Holy Week Worship at Home

With our Palm Sunday worship this Sunday (4/5), we begin the observation of Holy Week. Here are a few items of note to prepare yourself for your worship at home.
Palm Fronds
In observance of Palm Sunday April 5, we will have Palm fronds for you to pick up. Come by the church (west parking lot doors) on Saturday or Sunday morning (8:30am or later) to pick up enough for your family. In order to observe proper social distancing, please remain in your car until the person in front of you has returned to their car.
Communion Observed this Sunday (Palm Sunday) and Maundy Thursday
As you know, it is the custom at King Avenue Church to observe communion on the first Sunday of the month and Maundy Thursday. Although our services are on-line, we shall still celebrate the Lord's Supper. The pastors will read the Great Thanksgiving as always. We ask that you have bread and juice by your laptop ready for you to eat and drink. Do not worry if you don't have the "correct bread and juice." What you have will suffice. These are extraordinary times. Wine, soda, fruit juice, or water is also good. Crackers, sandwich bread, bagel, or muffin is fine. You get the idea. What matters is what your heart receives and what God works within your life.
Good Friday Candles
Although it is not necessary to have candles for the Good Friday service, the service allows an opportunity for you to observe your own Tenebrae worship at home. If you have four candles, there are four sections to our worship. If you only have one candle, that will work as well.
Sign up for a time in our 24-Hour Prayer Vigil – April 9 & 10
The Holy Spirit works in and through prayer. We will be praying for the church and for the healing and transformation of the world that Christ came to save during a Maundy Thursday vigil of prayer from Thursday, April 9 at 8:30pm through Friday, April 10 at 7pm (when Good Friday worship begins.) Persons are invited to sign-up in increments of 30 minutes. “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests...be alert and always keep praying.” Ephesians 6:18.
