Response to Mass Shootings

Pastoral Response to Recent Mass Shootings

Our communities are grieving these days from an epidemic of mass shootings. Collectively we have a variety of responses: anger, frustration, sadness, grieving, disbelief and in somecases even numbness. There are reasons behind each and every response that make sense and some may not be apparent. Wherever you find yourself around this, I invite you to be gathered up by our God who knows our pain and loves us for exactly who we are. I posted these words below on Facebook account after I heard of the most recent shooting and I still feel them to my core.

ROMANS 8:26
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with groanings too deep for words. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers for Robb Elementary School and those who are deeply grieving. Intercede for us, there are just no words.

This Sunday we will have a time of silence and prayer for the most recent shootings that have occurred in both worship services, specifically the Buffalo supermarket shooting, the California Church shooting, and the Robb Elementary School shooting in Texas. We will also open our chapel during the 10am hour and after the 11am service for those who desire to pray and reach out for connection.

Shalom to you in this day,
